International Herald Tribune – March 27, 2008 RANCHO SANTA FE, California: Rancho Santa Fe, one of the wealthiest communities in the United States, is a bucolic enclave 125 miles, or 200 kilometers, south of Los Angeles with a median home price of $2.5 million, the country's third highest, according to Andrew Nelson, president of Willis Allen Real Estate in nearby La Jolla.
But Fiona and John Fleming, a couple from Ireland who have vacationed in Southern California every summer for the past 15 years, paid a lot less than that for the prestigious 92067 ZIP code.”
For $440,000, or about a fifth of what they would have paid for sole ownership of a comparable home here, the Flemings now spend four reserved weeks a year in a three-bedroom Spanish hacienda and have unlimited access on a space-available basis. "We immediately felt this would work for us," Fleming said. "It gave us the opportunity to have a big comfortable place in California."
